When most think of Chicago’s Italian district, they think of Taylor Street, in Little Italy. But there’s another Italian enclave that’s not as familiar: a two-block stretch of Oakley Avenue on the Near Southwest Side, in the Heart of an Italian neighborhood. This is where you will find La Fontanella Ristorante, easy to get to and minutes away from the United Center, Comiskey Park, McCormick Place Convention Center, Soldier Field, and of course your hotel!
La Fontanella’s walls are lined with photographs, reviews and awards. A small casual bar on your right as you continue to the small dining room has a charming, old-world feel thanks to the red and green checkered tablecloths and flower rimmed dishes that adorn the tables. Homemade pastas, the Spinach and cheese raviolis w/pesto are the draw here, as the sausage and peppers, a variety of veal dishes and chicken Versuvio. The Crusty bread from D’Amato’s bakery is served warm. La Fontanella makes kids feel welcome too, with crayons, kiddie cocktails and child size portions of pastas.
The Gamberale family manages this cozy and romantic Italian restaurant located in the Heart of Italy, a famous area of bakeries and restaurants located in the Heart of Chicago since 1971. Chef Franco prepares delicious meals made to order, and serves them in a charming, old world atmosphere. All their delicious food is made to order, and you can grab a drink at the full bar while you wait.
